DIVERSITY & EQUALITY STATEMENT
St Paul’s Steiner School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
Our mission is to educate the whole child in a healthy and balanced manner, developing the physical, emotional and intellectual capacities of each child through an age-appropriate curriculum.
As a non-selective, non-denominational and co-educational school, we value children of different abilities, gender and sexual orientation, religion and belief, ethnicity, culture and linguistic origin. We are committed to:
- providing an inclusive education which enables all our pupils to develop their capacities
- valuing diversity and promoting positive relationships
- valuing each child’s individual gifts and contributions to the school community
- continuously work to remove obstacles for the educational, (including spiritual, moral, cultural and social) development of each child.
- meeting the requirements of the Equality Act 2010 and SEND Code of practice
Recent school initiatives have included INSET sessions exploring storytelling and gender identity, Equality, Diversity & Inclusion essentials by Equality and Diversity UK, staff led INSET on LGBTQIA+ history and looking at how to be an ally to the queer community. We improved our library and brought in new resources as part of Pride in Education month and Black History Month. The school has BSL as part of the curriculum in classes I-V. The School has a Diversity and Equality working group who is committed to exploring ways of ensuring that the school has SMSC as part of every subject in school, that the festivals are celebrating the many cultures we have in school and in the city we live in and to widen our pupil and staff recruitment and connect with the local community around us. To further this work we are aiming for Equliteach silver award.

We promise to purposefully discuss and challenge issues of race and colour and its impact on our school, its systems and its people.
We challenge ourselves to understand and to continue to discover and correct inequalities we may find.
We commit to our anti-racism in a way that can be reflected in the life and culture of our school and all its policies.
We are resolved to develop as individuals and as a collective to dismantle racism at school and in society as a whole.
